Characterizing UX Evaluation in Software Modeling Tools: A Literature Review

Model-Based Software Engineering (MBSE) has a high potential to play critical role in the whole process of software engineering, bringing many benefits all stakeholders, yet it is not used by most developers today, due both lack tool capabilities and poor user experience (UX) tools. This study aims understand evaluation types methods applied researchers when studying UX modeling tools (modeling or MX) issues uncovered these studies. We conducted literature review using snowballing approach gather studies this topic. A total 41 research papers were reviewed. Data extraction was performed based on questions categorization discussed presented. Several gaps future opportunities identified discussed, which include 1) utilizing interview method design; 2) distributing testing tasks profiles; 3) involving experts analysis; 4) scalability large models; 5) assessing MX areas other than just usability utility; 6) considering collaborative as an important factor contributing MX; 7) language 8) improving taxonomy challenges; 9) triangulating multiple methods; 10) developing validating design heuristics.
